Missing Mother of War Vet Found Dead

GILROY (KRON)--Police say the missing mother of an Iraq war veteran who killed himself and his sister in an apparent murder-suicide has been found dead off a rural road near the border of Santa Clara County.

Authorities had been looking for 52-year-old Martha Gutierrez after police found the bodies of her children, 27-year-old Abel and 11-year-old Lucero in their apartment on March 14. Investigators believe Abel killed his sister before turning the gun on himself and evidence at the scene indicated that Martha may have been critically injured or deceased.

According to investigators, Abel was a war veteran and family members believe he may have suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Distorder. On Thursday, authorities confirmed that the remains found at the Santa Clara and San Benito border were those of Martha Gutierrez.
