OAKLAND (KRON) -- Oakland sanitation workers say they did not find a weapon inside a trash can three blocks from Oikos University after a scavenger reported seeing a weapon inside.
KRON 4's J.R. Stone reports from the scene at Edgewater and Hegenberger that a man looking for cans went through the can Thursday morning when he reportedly spotted some sort of firearm inside. For an unknown reason the man didn't report the discovery to anyone until about 4:00 p.m., police say.
By the time officers arrived the trash can was full. After waiting for sanitation workers to arrive, a methodical search of the can failed to turn up anything other than common garbage, police say.
Divers have been looking in the water along the estuary in hopes of finding the weapon One Goh allegedly used in the shooting rampage. Police say Goh has not been cooperative in the search for the weapon. He remains held without bond in the Santa Rita jail.
