OAKLAND (BCN)--A potentially armed suspect is barricaded in a hotel near Oakland's Jack London Square Friday afternoon, according to police and witnesses nearby.
The suspect is barricaded in the 400 block of Embarcadero West, Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said.
A man armed with a gun apparently ran into the Jack London Inn at 444 Embarcadero West at about 11:15 a.m., according to Mandie Cheek, who works at the Home of Chicken & Waffles restaurant located next door to the hotel. Cheek said police came into the restaurant to tell employees about the incident.
Customers inside the restaurant were allowed to leave around 12:30 p.m., but employees remained inside, Cheek said.
Police had closed off the 400 block of Embarcadero West as well as other nearby streets as of 1 p.m., she said.
Police were not immediately available to provide more information about the standoff.
