MENLO PARK, Calif. (AP) - Menlo Park has approved a deal with Facebook that will allow the company to bring in thousands of more employees to its headquarters in the city.
The City Council unanimously passed the deal on Tuesday. Reports say that among other things, it calls for Facebook to pay the city millions of dollars, make pedestrian and bicycle path improvements and set up a high school internship program.
In exchange, Menlo Park has agreed to expedite the company's permits and not to levy unexpected city fees on the social networking company.
Facebook wants to employ about 6,600 people on its 57-acre, nine-building campus. It needed the city's approval to exceed a limit of 3,600 employees that was placed on the campus's previous occupant, Sun Microsystems.
Facebook eventually wants to expand and build a west campus across the street.
