Man Arrested After Allegedly Holding Customer Hostage at Hayward Bank

HAYWARD (KRON)--A man has been arrested after taking a customer hostage in a Hayward bank Tuesday.
KRON 4's Terisa Estacio reports that a man entered the Wells Fargo located at Second and A streets in Hayward at about 11:30 a.m. and handed a teller a note saying that he was armed and planning to rob the bank. Police were notified when someone inside the bank triggered a security alarm.
According to police, responding officers arrived on the scene and saw that the suspect had taken a female victim hostage at knifepoint. Upon officers entering the bank, the suspect surrendered to authorities and alluded to the possibility of a bomb inside the bank. K9 units and the bomb squad were dispatched to the scene while authorities investigated.
The bank remains closed while police continue their investigation.
