OAKLAND (KRON) -- At least eleven people are facing drug charges after a raid on a warehouse in Oakland where police say they seized more than 1,000 marijuana plants.
Officers served a search warrant at the industrial facility near the intersection of 89th Avenue and G Street at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. That's just east of the Coliseum and Oracle Arena.
Authorities say the eleven people inside the building surrendered without resistance.
KRON 4's Will Tran reports officers could be seen removing many large garbage bags and other containers filled with marijuana. Authorities say the total number of plants may exceed 1,000. Investigators say it appears this is an illegal grow and not designed for sale to medical marijuana patients. Police say the suspects weren't trying to hide what they were doing behind the facade of an existing business.
