FREMONT, Calif. (AP) - Police say an 18-year-old high school football player was stabbed to death at a party in Fremont.
The Oakland Tribune reports that Osana Futi, a star running back and linebacker for Newark Memorial High School, was stabbed on Saturday night and pronounced dead at a hospital early Sunday.
Sgt. Codey of Fremont PD says officers responded to reports of gunshots and a loud party.
The school's athletic director Rich Swift says Futi was named Mission Valley Athletic League's Rob Johnson Defensive Player of the year.
Futi's life had been troubled in recent years after the murder of a close friend.
Official say he was briefly kicked out of school after being accused of threatening another student who had mocked his friend's death.
One man has been arrested on suspicion of homicide in connection with the stabbing, and three juveniles have been arrested on suspicion of being accessories to homicide.
