SAN FRANCISCO (BCN)--The northbound approach to the Golden Gate Bridge has reopened as  scheduled Monday morning and commuters are making their way along the roadway  after crews completed around-the-clock demolition work on Doyle Drive over  the weekend, a Caltrans spokeswoman said.

Traffic was flowing smoothly on the road Monday morning  as motorists adjusted to the new roadway that is undergoing a $1.1 billion  seismic upgrade project, Caltrans spokeswoman Molly Graham said.

She advised drivers making the commute along Doyle Drive  to expect some delays.

"Generally when there is a big change like this, drivers need time  to get used to it and adjust," she said.

The five-lane approach to the bridge now features a moveable  barrier that allows three lanes to be dedicated to the busiest direction of  traffic, Graham said.
