SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - San Jose police believe the beating death of a 14-year-old at a downtown park was gang-related.
Heriberto Reyes died at a hospital on Monday, three days after police say he was attacked by a group of people at Roosevelt Park shortly after he was dropped off there by his father in the evening.
Police have released few details about the case although they do say Heriberto was targeted. It's not clear whether he had any gang affiliations. Roosevelt Park is a known gang hangout.
No suspects have been identified. Police say witnesses were gone by the time they arrived at the park.
Heriberto was an eighth grader at Bernal Intermediate School in south San Jose.
