SAN FRANCISCO (KRON)--San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval has fractured his left hamate bone and will be out at least four weeks, almost a year after a similar injury caused him to miss 41 games last season.
The developments come after Sandoval left the field with the hand injury during the sixth inning of Wednesdsay's game against the Marlins. It was not immediately clear how he injured himself. An MRI performed later confirmed the fracture.
Sandoval, who missed about a quarter of the season last summer after surgery on his right wrist, is batting .316 with five home runs and 15 RBIs this year. Sandoval, who will have surgery on his hand Friday is expected to be out four to six weeks.
