SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Police now say a man shot and killed in a standoff with San Francisco officers was the son of a Rohnert Park murder victim.
Dennis Hughes died after authorities say he shot at them and tried to set fires inside the apartment building at 861 Post St.
The standoff began when Rohnert Park police officers traveled to San Francisco to question Hughes about the murder of his mother, 66-year-old Dianne Hughes, who was found beaten to death in her home on Tuesday.
Police say they determined a threat to public safety when Hughes allegedly fired shots through the wall and floors of the apartment he shared with his girlfriend.
Internal Affairs detectives continue to investigate the fatal shooting. There are no reports of other injuries.
