LOS GATOS, Calif. (AP) - A Los Gatos doctor is facing charges that she ran a drug operation out of her office.
Jasna Mrdjen appeared in court on Monday on charges of conspiracy to sell controlled substances. She did not enter a plea.
Authorities say the 69-year-old Mrdjen knowingly prescribed pain relievers to drug addicts even after their families told her not to. One of her patients died of a drug overdose.
Santa Clara County prosecutors say others were arrested on suspicion of reselling the drugs, including from Mrdjen's office parking lot.
Mrdjen's arrest came after a months-long investigation that included Mountain View and Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the state Department of Justice and the Medical Board of California.
Mrdjen's attorney declined to comment to the Mercury News.
