SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Protestors have disrupted a University of California board meeting where officials are discussing a tuition increase to help close its budget shortfall.

     

Members of the UC Board of Regents left the meeting room at the Sacramento Convention Center shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday after a dozen protesters stood up, began chanting and clapping hands and refused requests to stop.

 

The demonstrators say they are protesting "UC management," tuition hikes and police crackdowns on campus protests.

     

The disruption occurred just before the regents were set to consider plans to raise tuition this fall to offset state budget cuts. The board is not scheduled to vote on a tuition increase Wednesday.

     

The regents are expected to vote on the appointment of Pradeep Khosla as the next chancellor of UC San Diego.
