OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Oakland Unified School District's police force is being investigated by a federal grand jury after two highly publicized incidents.
District officials say the FBI is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting and alleged racist remarks by the force's former chief.
District spokesman Troy Flint said the district is fully cooperating with the probe.
The district is the subject of two federal lawsuits surrounding the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Raheim Brown by school police Sgt. Barhin Bhatt. Bhatt opened fire after Brown reportedly tried to stab another officer with a screwdriver.
Bhatt was cleared of wrongdoing by Alameda County prosecutors.
Pete Sarna, the department's former chief, resigned after a black officer accused him of making racist statements.
