PLEASANTON (KRON) -- The Alameda County Coroner's office is trying to identify the remains of a woman found inside a plastic garbage can along a busy road in Pleasanton.

Someone called police Thursday morning to report the 45-gallon plastic can which was along Dublin Canyon Road in a rural area southeast of the intersection of Interstates 580 and 680.

Neighbors tell KRON 4's Kate Thompson it's unusual to see a garbage can in the area on a Thursday since the waste management company collects refuse on Tuesdays.

Authorities say they don't know much about how the can was placed there or how the woman died.  They're hoping forensic investigators can help identify the woman and lead them to the person responsible for her death.
On Friday, authorities released additional details about the victim, saying she was clothed in pajama bottoms and an Old Navy shirt. Police say the victim was also wearing blue fingernail polish.
Anyone with information about the victim or this case should contact Pleasanton police.
