SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A bicyclist who fatally struck a 71-year-old man in a San Francisco crosswalk will be charged with felony vehicular manslaughter.
San Francisco prosecutors said Thursday that they plan to file the charge against Chris Bucchere early next week.
The 36-year-old Bucchere is expected to turn himself in in the next few days.
He is accused of running a red light on his bicycle and hitting Sutchi Hui as Hui and his wife crossed the street at an intersection in the Castro District on March 29. Authorities say Hui died a few days later of blunt force trauma injuries from the collision.
District Attorney George Gascon said he plans to charge Bucchere with a felony because he displayed gross negligence before hitting Hui.
Bucchere is expected to appear in court for arraignment next week.
