SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Court sessions are closed and the jail is on lockdown after a power outage Thursday afternoon at the San Francisco Hall of Justice.

Elevators are working and a few hallway lights are on but otherwise both the criminal court section and the county jail are both without power.

PG&E crews are on the scene.  They hope to restore power within a couple of hours.

The cause of the outage remains unknown.  KRON 4's Stanley Roberts confirms the doors to all of the courtrooms are locked.  The Sheriff's department, which operates the jail says no one is allowed in or out of the main downtown facility.  There are emergency generators which are powering the most critical parts of the facility, sheriff's deputies say.

Stay tuned to KRON 4 and KRON4.com for the latest on this developing story.
