ANTIOCH (KRON) -- A wanted parolee is expected to survive his injuries after an Antioch police officer opened fire while trying to bring him into custody.

Authorities say officers tried to serve an arrest warrant Monday afternoon on 36-year old Paul Morales.  Investigators say Morales was wanted on a parole violation and a recent felony child abuse charge.

When officers arrived on Reseda Way, they say they encountered Morales who was armed with a handgun.  One officer opened fire hitting the parolee in the leg.  He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.  Investigators say Morales has a long criminal history including convictions for theft, weapons violations, evading police, and obstruction of justice.

No officers or bystanders were hurt.
