OAKLAND (KRON) -- Oakland police say they're wrapping up a long-term investigation into members of the so-called "Burn Out Family" gang operating in East Oakland.

Investigators say they've linked alleged members of the gang with crimes like illegal firearm possession, drug trafficking, and credit card fraud.

“This is another example of making large, coordinated, and meaningful impacts on the sources of violence in Oakland,” said Chief Howard Jordan in a written statement.  “We were successful through the use of our planning, covert intelligence, agency partnerships, and the coordinated assistance of United States Attorney Melinda Haig and District Attorney Nancy O’Malley.”

The Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Secret Service joined Oakland police in the effort, authorities say.

The investigation led to the arrests of at least 45 people on state and federal charges.  Police say they seized about 22 guns and machines used to make fake credit cards.

Police also arrested four people for conspiracy to commit murder.

Investigators say more arrests are likely before the operation draws to a close.
