BAY BRIDGE (KRON) -- All lanes are now open for drivers heading from San Francisco to the East Bay after an early morning shooting on the Bay Bridge.
The CHP says it received a report of a car travelling about 100 miles per hour on the bridge's lower deck at about 2:00 a.m. By the time officers arrived they say the car had wrecked at the S-Curve. That's when witnesses say gunfire was exchanged between the officer and the people in the car.
Both the driver and the passenger were injured in the crash. It appears no one was hit by gunfire.
Authorities shut down the lower deck of the bridge several times overnight. By the start of the morning commute only one lane was open with traffic backed up to the I-80/I-280 interchange. Some drivers say they spent two and a half hours or longer trying to get across the bridge. All lanes re-opened at about 9:55 a.m.
