Still No Containment Friday Morning on Fire in Santa Cruz Mountains
Created by Brian Shields on 8/14/2009 7:10:00 AM

DAVENPORT, Calif. (AP) - California fire officials say two structures have been damaged in the Santa Cruz Mountains by a wildfire that is chewing through a remote wilderness area and has forced the evacuation of more than 2,000 residents.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says it does not know what type of structures have been damaged. No injuries have been reported.

Despite some success fighting the blaze, it has grown to 6.4 square miles and is only about 5 percent contained.

The fire started Wednesday night and is burning about 10 miles north of Santa Cruz. It's one of several wildfires raging across the state.

Info request
Hey, your coverage of the Bonny Doon fire is really amazing. I'm an evacuee, glued to the tv. You're giving really great details--some of the best news coverage I've seen period. Thanks for not churning the same info over and over. One request from multiple locals: can you label a few roads on the aerial views? Like Empire Grade, Bonny Doon Rd, Pine Flat? Hard to tell what we're looking at... THANK YOU!!
